Virpazar town with a population of only one thousand inhabitants is, perhaps, the only perceptible settlement, which is located on the territory of Montenegro Lake Skadar. The historical part of this settlement is small: the monuments of partisans and heroes of the Great Patriotic War. However, a notable historical tradition is the opening of the market on Fridays fair where locals sell fresh foods gathered from their gardens.

 

The largest lake in the entire Balkan region-  Skadar - located on the territory of two states, with most of the (approximately 2/3 of the lake) that is unique in every sense of the natural object belongs to Montenegro, and the rest - to Albania. On the part of both countries the lake and the surrounding lands are considered as protected and are under state protection, so the Montenegrin coast of Lake Skadar declared as national park.
